Nottingham County Conference – Report
LEADING CHANGE
Nottinghamshire County LINk Annual Conference
Leading Change was the culmination of a very successful year’s work undertaken by Nottinghamshire County LINk.
Sandra Horton compered the day for around 90 delegates and the conference focussed on LINk’s achievements and featured presentations from each of the seven Task and Finish Groups. The speakers, who are volunteers and not professional speakers, did incredibly well providing brief summaries of the recommendations that each group is putting forward to the service providers. An Executive Summaries Report was available on the day and can be downloaded from the LINk website.
The first guest speaker, Molly Harvey, was a cheerful, inspirational speaker from Ireland who has spoken at the United Nations in New York. She engaged the audience with her messages, including ‘Never think that a small group cannot change the world!’ and she encouraged listeners to trust their ‘inner sat navs’. This can easily relate to LINk as every contribution is most definitely valued and together we can make a Stronger Local Voice!
ORDINARY PEOPLE CAN ACHIEVE EXTRAORDINARY THINGS!
During the afternoon, celebrity speaker, Alan Chambers, talked about his exploits planning and walking to the North Pole for the first time. This involved five years of research and training, as well as choosing a team to go with him. The latter didn’t automatically result in Alan choosing the people with the most qualifications on their CVs or his friends, but individuals who he thought could work together to beat the 1% chance of success they were given!
The audience could take a lot from Alan’s talk in relation to working for LINk, ‘Ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things’, was one inspirational message, if people pay attention to the finer details and work together to progress the confidence of the group will grow and results will come.
Alan explained he is a big believer of moving projects forward by using updated methods and being innovative.
His motivational message of thinking of the best ways to inspire your team can definitely be applied by LINk and was quite appropriate as Jane Stubbings followed Alan by explaining how the Issues Panel works, then introduced the Work Plan for the forthcoming year. This includes ten new Task & Finish Groups that feature consultations and a small number of short term projects running in Rushcliffe. Information about the new groups can be accessed from the LINk website.
During the summary of the day, Sandra drew the raffle prizes, which included a guest pass for Eden Hall. Anyone who signed up to the new Task and Finish Groups for 2010 – 2011 was automatically entered in to the prize draw. An impressive 25 people signed up to the new groups and the lucky winner was a Mr Joy Brealey.
LINk would like to thank Theatre Royal Nottingham for donating two tickets to see When Harry Met Sally in April, Mansfield Town Football Club for donating four tickets to see a home game and a voucher for a homemade cake of the winner’s choice from Deli’cious Catering Company.
We would like to thank both the Lindhurst Rooms at Mansfield Civic Centre who proved to be very good hosts and supplied the conference with a lovely and varied lunch, and all the health and social care organisations from Nottinghamshire, who brought along all their equipment to provide informative merchandise for the delegates.
Thank you to everyone for turning up and ensuring LEADING CHANGE was a great success!
We hope you enjoyed the day, please don’t hesitate to contact the LINk with any comments you have.

Task & Finish Group Reports 2009 – 2010
The reports for each Task & Finish Group from 2009 – 2010 are now complete and available for public viewing. To download the reports please go to the publications page and scroll down to Task & Finish Reports.
Executive Summary
Due to the reports being very thorough, a number of them are quite long so LINk complied an Executive Summary for each report and collated them into one document. This provides an outline of each group and the results achieved. This is available to download under the Task & Finish Group reports.
LINk welcomes any comments you have and if you wish to discuss any of these issues further, please contact the LINk support team on 0115 975 4647 or email info@strongerlocalvoice.com

LEADING CHANGE
Nottinghamshire County LINk Annual Conference 2010
Nottinghamshire County LINk is holding an Annual Conference in Mansfield at the end of March (see below for full details). Members of the LINk, health and social care organisations and the general public who are interested in health and social care services throughout Nottinghamshire will all be invited to attend.
Each LINk working group will present what they have achieved during the past year. There will be an introduction to next year’s Work Plan and an opportunity for people to sign up to the LINk and join one of the new working groups. Each delegate that signs up to a working group will have the opportunity to enter a free prize draw, which will be drawn at the end of the day and there are some great prizes on offer. Stands from health and social care organisations will be also set up around the conference, offering a variety of information to delegates.
In addition to all this, Motivational Speaker Molly Harvey will be lifting the audience with encouragement by sharing her ideas on how to get going in life. There will be a hot and cold buffet lunch, followed by celebrity speaker Alan Chambers, who will give an interesting and inspiring talk on his achievements. Alan led the first British team to walk unaided to the geographical North Pole. He will also take questions from members of the audience.
The conference is completely free for delegates to attend and will be an interesting, fun and informative day.
